Electrical fire Protection

80-90% of all fire incidents are caused by electrical reasons, mostly short circuit. Short circuit normally happen when Line and neutral get connected accidentally. But Line and neutral do not get connected automatically unless there is human intervention or rodents chewing the wires.

So a short circuit will normally happen if an internal component gets damaged due to voltage problem and causes internal short circuit. Short circuit will result in sparks and burning of the components which will trigger MCB/ fuses to cut off the supply ultimately.

While this happens original spark which damaged the internal component night ignite fire in nearby flamamble item causing the fire to spread. So MCB/ fuse tripping will only control the damage which has happened and prevent further tragedy. It does not prevent the short circuit incident from happening.

Some scenarios that can cause this kind of problem:
1. Fires cause during power outage:

Whenever the power resumes after a Power outage, the initial transients in supply will damage the equipments which are ON. Many people are just plain lazy to switch off the equipment or the main switch when there is a power outage.

Some equipments are like Refrigerator are supposed to be kept ON for 24 hours . Other equipment like TV, ACs,microwave, mobile chargers, laptop chargers, mosquito repellants are left ON due negligence. Most of the househlds today are double income household where both spouses are out for office during the day. In case of the office, CCTV camera are kept ON for 24 hours for obvious reasons.

If one forgets to swtich of all equipment before leaving home and if such an incident was to happen the complete house might be up in the flames. The odds of the incident happening are unlikely but if it does happen, there is not protection in place. So such problems if they happen in absence can trigger fire and while complete home can get burnt.

2. Neutral open or Floating neutral conditions

Many Electricians crudely talk of problems like “phase coming in neutral “ or “neutral reverse” or “reverse current in neutral”. These are all actually neutral open or floating neutral condition which can result in voltage in excess of 350-400V between any phase and neutral.

Most appliances we use are having SMPS based power supplies which have 15-20% tolerance for voltage. These are not designed for 440V situation and will get damaged immediately. Even inverter based ACs which boast of better electrical efficiency and no need for stabilizers will get damaged in this double votlage situation.

No stabilizer , UPS, inverter or even a normal home voltage protector with a simple over voltage protection will be able to handle 350-400V in single phase and will get damaged themselves and also contribute to fire problem.

3. Fires Caused by Low voltage

Low voltage is often not looked as a problem but can become a cause of fires.

Consider a 1000W appliance in you home will consume 1000VA/ 230V= 4.34A. So the entire wiring in the house is designed for the same current rating.

But lets suppose the house is getting low voltage of say 150V, so effectively your 1000W applaince will try to absorb additional current which is 1000VA/ 150V =6.6A.

If your Wire is not desiged to carry 6.6A , it will get heated and melt. The insulation can catch fire leading to catastrophe. Low voltage is not percieved as big problem at first but a prolonged Low voltage will cause fire problems.

4. Fires caused by Spikes

Every equipment which switches on or off will create a spike in the circuit. All the equipment we use are all connected between Line and neutral. So multiple equipment in the line will mean a lot of spikes during the day.

It is estimated that an average equipment faces 100-200 spikes in a day. Other problem may happen once in a month or a year but spikes happen every day. These spikes damage your equipment little by little over a period of 3-4 years causing gradual life decay of internal components. When they finally get damage there is a chance that the incident may trigger a spark that leads to fire.

Solution:

Equipower- Mainline voltage protector which acts like an electrical fire protection device. If we prevent component damage , we prevent the short circuit and thereby prevent fires casued by electrical reasons.

Why use Equipower for home/ office??
1. Equipower is an Electrical Fire Protection device necessary for every home and office, whether it is cities or in rural places
2. Equipower is the only protection device that can withstand 440V for for more than 24 hours. The premise or offices doesn’t have any kind of voltage protection.
3. Your office/premise are always prone to neutral open condition which can cause 440 voltage.
4. Your TV, ACs, PC/laptop and fridge face 100-200 spikes every day but there is no protection.
5. Your office /premise have protection for overload, short circuit but not for over voltage and daily spikes.

Equipower safeguards your devices through two key features:

  1. Voltage Protection: If the voltage surpasses 265V, Equipower promptly disconnects the power supply, shielding your equipment from harmful electricity. Upon voltage normalization, it automatically reinstates power after a 15-second delay, protecting against transients. What truly distinguishes Equipower is its exceptional capability to endure and safeguard against 440V for over 24 hours. In contrast, other products typically succumb to damage within 2 minutes, even with built-in overvoltage protection.
  2. Surge Protection: Equipower incorporates 160kA (max) surge protection, effectively absorbing sudden spikes and surges. In microseconds, the surge protection mechanism intercepts voltage surges, closing the pathway between the phase and ground to clamp down on voltage levels experienced by your equipment.

Where do you install the Equipower ?

Equipower should be installed at the incoming supply point of the premises, positioned immediately after the meter and before the main MCB in the distribution panel within the house or office. This ensures comprehensive protection for the entire load.

Equipower is offered in various models to accommodate different MCB ratings, including 1-phase and 3-phase options:

  • 16A: Available for both 1-phase and 3-phase systems
  • 32A: Available for both 1-phase and 3-phase systems
  • 40A: Available for both 1-phase and 3-phase systems
  • 63A: Available for both 1-phase and 3-phase systems

Higher models can be customized according to specific requirements.
